“Yeah, really sweet,” I muttered under my breath.

“So, Suzie. How do you think we should make it?” asked my mom.

“I thought Freddy could carve a face with a big, scary mouth full of teeth. He could make slits on each side for gills. Then he could cut a fin and a tail out of cardboard and stick one on the top and one on the back.”

“That does sound really cool,” I said. “Will you help me with it?”

“Sure.”

Suzie, my mom, and I worked for a long time. I drew a mouth with lots of sharp teeth and some mean-looking eyes. Then my mom helped me carve it. She also helped me cut the gills. She didn’t want me to use a knife by myself. Then I drew a big fin and a tail on some cardboard, and Suzie helped me cut them out. It was hard for me to cut through the cardboard with my little scissors, so Suzie cut with the bigger scissors that she’s allowed to use. We stuck the fin on the top of the pumpkin and the tail on the back and admired our masterpiece. My mom even took a picture.
